Adopt-A-Building2/1/2015 We have journeyed through yet another amazing year of experiencing God’s faithfulness together. I want to thank you for how you have continued to embrace my family and I here in Nacogdoches. We are going on our fourth year at Fredonia Hill and through every season we feel more and more part of this city and part of your lives.
For my article this month I wanted to take the time to make you aware of a new ministry in Nacogdoches which our church is partnering with. The ministry is called Adopt-a-Building Nacogdoches. This ministry is an offshoot of the Glory Gang ministry in an effort to reach the families of the kids being served through the Glory Gang. Adopt-a-Building is a collaboration of several different churches in Nacogdoches. These churches come together once a month and cook meals to pass out in the homes and apartment complexes where the Glory Gang students live. Many of these families are struggling to put food on the table and this is a simple way in which we can bless them by feeding their families for a night. However, our goal is much larger than simply feeding families once a month. We realize that true hope and freedom come as people come to salvation by believing on Jesus. Our hope is to build trust and relationships with these families as we serve food once a month. Meeting a physical need is a great way to establish the platform needed to share the gospel with someone. We are praying that by the power of the Holy Spirit people will be ready to hear and receive the gospel. Once the gospel has been received in many of these neighborhoods our desire is to see the new believers connect to a local church where they can be discipled and then equipped to begin to reach out into their own communities. Though we believe this is going to be a long-term labor, we believe a truly powerful shift will begin to take place when people are transformed by the gospel and then take that good news back into their homes and neighborhoods. As I previously stated, this is a long-term labor. One of the areas we are serving is in our own church neighborhood. What better way for you and I to engage the mission field than in our own neighborhood! If this is something you are interested in participating in we would love to have you. You can come with us to pass out food on the first Sunday of each month. Listen in the announcements for the details of time and place to meet. Even if you don’t feel comfortable passing out meals, we need people to cook, clean, and organize the information we are gathering as we pass out food and pray for our neighbors. If you’re interested in being part of this team, send me an email at [email protected]. Happy 2015!
